Good morning, how exciting, the last day of year 5 before the summer holidays
We have set the work today on each subject Google Classroom. If you cannot access Google Classroom the work can be completed on paper.
Please see below the tasks set for today:
Maths- This week we will be setting daily activities on mathletics for you to complete, this will allow your new teacher to know which areas you understand and which you may need to work on in September. Remember if you don’t score very highly the first time you can always have another try.
English- Over the next three days we would like you to create an informative PowerPoint for the new year 5 children. It should inform them about all the important aspects of year 5. Today we would like you to add any other key information which you think is important for the new year 5 children. Then record yourself presenting your presentation and add your video to the class PowerPoint.
Enjoy your summer break and don’t forget to complete your summer project. We can’t wait to see you all back in September.
Holiday Homework
Our first topic in September is Earth Matters - a look at the water cycle, coasts and rivers, mountains, volcanoes, earthquakes, climate zones and biomes. For your home learning over the summer holidays, your project is to research a volcano, earthquake or mountain range and produce an information poster about your choice of project.
Your poster should include maps, diagrams and photographs to make it as creative as possible. In addition, it would be fabulous if you could make a 3D map of the area concerned. Be as creative as you like, you could make it out of Lego, playdough, paint or even papier mache! You must include a key and use atlas symbols. Why not draw a route on your map to get from a starting point to a finishing point. To find an area, use Google maps and drop the person onto the country given then search for an area you find interesting.
If you finish a book you can still quiz at ukhosted65.renlearn.co.uk/2240525
Or add a review to your book powerpoint.

Once you have written down your spellings and their definitions, I would like you to create your very own revision flashcards using the 'Google Slides' document attached (on one side you will need to write the word, on the other side you will need to write the definition) - When you present this you will have the chance to guess your answer before it is revealed. Or you can create your own on paper.
You can use this document to practise your spellings ready for the Hive game on Thursday.
Let's see if we can get the whole class logging in this week!

Spring 2, Week 3
As part of science week we have created an experiment to see the effect the mummification process would have had on the bodies which were mummified. We sliced and removed the insides of the fruit, just as the Egyptians would have removed the organs. We then created a natron mixture from salt and bicarbonate of soda and covered the fruit. We then left it for five days to see the effect it would have.
Spring 2, Week 2
This week we have thoroughly enjoyed English week. We created our own letters from objects in the classroom, using personification ( We based our ideas on The Day The Crayons Quit) We loves representing blue crayon in the parade and also taking part in paired reading with Holly class.
Spring 2, Week 1
This week we continued to work on our investigation skills in Science. We set up a test to find out how the weight of different objects changed in air and in water. We ensured that we only changed one variable it order to make sure that it was a fair test. We discovered that the weight of an object reduced when weighed in water and learnt about the effect of upthrust.
Spring 1, Week 5
This week we have written a balanced argument about life as pharaoh and a slave in ancient Greek times. In maths we have worked hard on our understanding of fractions, finding equivalents, simplifying fractions and converting improper fractions to mixed numbers. We have continued to work on databases in computing and explored friction in science.
Spring 1, Week 4
This week was multicultural week and we have had a great time learning about different countries and their cultures. We learnt about Spanish festivals; native trees to England and the traditions in Ukraine . We also took part in a Chinese dance workshop (take a look at our pictures to see what fun we had)
Spring 1, Week 3
This week in English we have been enjoying retelling the story of ‘The Time-Slip Scarab’. We worked in groups to add actions to each section to help us to retell the story. We then created freeze frames for each part of the story, thinking about conveying the characters feeling through their facial expressions and body language.
Spring 1, Week 2
This week year 5 took part in an Egyptian theatre workshop day. The workshop focused on many elements of the ancient Egyptian life, the children were engaged in the characters and supported them in solving challenges to remove the curse which had been placed on the explorer.
They also learnt Egyptian stories from different Egyptian gods and supported them in retelling the stories through actions. We are looking forward to using this in our upcoming work.
Spring 1, Week 1
This week in Science we began our new topic 'Forces'. We looked at the different forces which affect a falling object and used this to investigate how the surface area of an object affects the rate at which it falls. We kept all the variables the same, changing only one variable which was the surface area.
We discovered from the investigation that the smaller the surface area the faster it falls due to less air resistance acting on the object.
Autumn 2, Week 6
This week in science we have been learning all about the phases of the moon, we really enjoyed showing the phases of the moon 🌑 🌒 🌓 with our biscuits. We then drew the phases of the moon and named them.
We also enjoyed taking part in the TT Rock stars battles this week again Oak and Elm class. Unfortunately we didn’t win, however we did increase our overall speed. We also made and played our own board games, using all the maths knowledge we have learnt this term.

We have had great fun learning all about common multiples by playing the common multiples game with our partner, we had to roll the dice to find two numbers and then workout the common multiple before crossing it off on our sheet. We then used this knowledge to help us to find factors.
Autumn 2, Week 4
This week we worked on our narrative writing and wrote our own stories based on the story structure of ‘The Tunnel’ by Athony Browne. We created our story mountains and developed this ideas into paragraphs building and developing our narratives. We used a variety of grammatical features to aid cohesion in our writing.

Autumn 2, Week 2
In science this week we looked at the different stages of human development and created our own informative timeline to show the changes that occur as we age..
We had a fantastic time learning traditional Bollywood dance. We learnt the meanings of the different moves and connected them together to form a dance which we performed.
Autumn 2, Week 1
We had a great fun on Monday morning creating our clay tiles for the whole school Artsmark project. We were creating intricate carved designs as well as adding some 3D elements. Take a look at our photos

We also had a fantastic time at the Science Museum learning all about space. Take a look at our photos to see how much we enjoyed our day.

Autumn 1, Week 3
