Happy New Year to you all and welcome back to school for the Spring Term. I started the year with assemblies on fresh starts and how January 1st can be seen as a good time to make New Year’s resolutions and a way of improving their own lives whether that means reading more, joining a school club or forcing themselves to attend school when you are feeling just a little bit under the weather.
We would find it very difficult to find a school that is not suffering from children with colds, flu or like us, Chicken Pox. However, we must look at overall attendance and 90% attendance might sound good but actually means that 8 days of school missed since September. That is a lot of learning missed and also makes future days in school more tricky as learning builds upon what was taught in the days before.
It has been wonderful to celebrate lots of our children for their efforts over the holidays. Some of the project learning homework has been fantastic and the amount of reading completed by children is incredible. Mrs Rautenbach is launching our reading cafes next week with Year 2 on Tuesday. This is a great opportunity to continue celebrating the great reading of your child or begin the journey towards a love of reading - which is the secret to great academic success.
Y3 participated in an excellent Ancient Egyptian workshop this week and the gaming club had a superb time in London competing against other schools on Friday. The creative and engaging learning opportunities have continued right from the start of term and many thanks to our teachers for going above and beyond arranging these experiences for our children.
Finally, the winter weather guidance has been sent home this week. I can assure you we will do everything possible to keep the school open and the site safe for everyone. The school website and Class Dojo will be updated should heavy snow fall in the coming weeks.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Mr Haylock
