Welcome back to school for the final half-term of this year. This is my favourite half-term as the weather is usually so lovely and it is great to see the children outside in our wonderful school grounds participating in outdoor learning.
During our Inset Days, the staff were working hard to further enhance our school curriculum. Ofsted praised the changes we had made to our curriculum which is based upon the Kapow scheme of work, but we used the days to make improvements to it and make it more bespoke for the needs of our curriculum and the community they live. We focused on ensuring the curriculum is active, creative, and engaging while still being broad and balanced and developing knowledge over time. Making use of our school grounds, learning and acting on sustainability, and using technology in creative ways were key areas we added in. Your children are certainly in for an even better curriculum next academic year!
This week we had a drama workshop for the younger children, year 5 visited Tate Modern and a new sport, NFL Flag football, was introduced. Mr Duffin still has places in his club so please contact him if you would like to join the club and are in years 4 or 5. The NFL sport does seem very brutal at times but I can assure you Flag Football is not! It does however include the fast-paced aspects of the game and develops the throwing and catching skills of those taking part.
Next week our year 1 children will be taking their phonics screening and year 4 will begin taking their multiplication tables check. Good luck to all of the children and thank you to all the staff and parents for helping the children to know their phonics sounds and the fast recall of their timestables. The Friends of Poverest are also supporting the Father's Day activities next week so a huge thank you to them. Some children will choose to make a card for a Grandparent or other family member so everyone can be included.
Have a wonderful weekend
