It's been another busy week at our school but first, well done to our Year 1 children who did brilliantly with their phonics assessments, demonstrating all that they have been taught over the last two years. Also, a big well done to Year 4 for completing their multiplication check and demonstrating their excellent knowledge. Every game on TT Rocks has paid off!
The whole class photos have been captured this week and have turned out exceptionally well. Information cards detailing how to view and purchase these have been sent home today.
The Year 3 children have had the privilege of embarking on another exciting educational journey to the Tate Modern this week, where they explored diverse artistic techniques and gained invaluable insights into the world of creative art. Such experiences not only broaden our children’s experiences of art but also inspire them to create their own pieces.
During my assembly this week, I focused on the upcoming Football European Championships which starts this evening. I may have encouraged our children to watch a game or two this weekend! The focus though, was the overarching message of inclusivity and the numerous benefits of embracing an active lifestyle. Sports, particularly football, are striving to be inclusive. We spoke about lunchtime and playtime football and how we can make the experience of this time better for all that take part or want to take part.
Our Vice Chair of Governors, Mr. Parker, visited the school on Wednesday for a learning walk with me. He was very proud of the children, their positive behaviour and their excellent engagement with their learning. It is great to have a wonderful supportive governing body that shares the same aim - ensuring that Poverest can be the best school for everyone in its community.
The school cricket team won their match this week against St Nicholas Church of England Primary by just one run - a very exciting end to a match where the result could have gone either way. Well done to all those involved.
Looking ahead, I would like to remind you of the upcoming National Sports Week, during which our Sports Days will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Additionally, we have arranged for engaging lessons on baseball and lacrosse for certain year groups, providing more opportunities for our children to explore different sports. On Thursday afternoon, we invite those of you who can, to join us for a parent and child fun run at 2 pm. Simply come along, lace up your trainers, and embark on a short fun run alongside your child or children. As a keen runner myself, the joy of running with your children is fantastic and if you can get up to 3 miles, your local Parkruns are great communities to be part of. My advice would be to do it now before your children get too fast for you, as has happened to me with my son!
Enjoy the weekend and enjoy the football if you’re watching it. Come on England!
