It has been a warm week at school with so many exciting events occurring for our children. I'd like to start by thanking the Friends of Poverest and the many teachers who have helped to prepare for our Summer Fair tomorrow. This is the biggest event in the charity calendar and is crucial to providing funds to pay for the many systems we use daily in school, such as Mathletics and Accelerated Reader. These events can't go on without voluntary support and I do hope that we will get more volunteers for our events next academic year. We have plans to allow people to volunteer for just one fundraising event which we hope will enable more people to sign up and continue the great achievements and events we have had in the past. More details will follow before the end of the term.
Back to the celebrations of this week, firstly a huge well done to the Lacrosse team who had a great time in Birmingham for the National Final. The team played brilliantly against some very skilful opposition, narrowly losing in the quarter-final to the eventual runners-up. A huge thank you to Mr Duffin and Mrs Kaynakci for taking the team and having a very long day due to train delays. Both teachers have reported on how excellent the children were representing our school. A group of year 5 girls had a superb time meeting Judy Murray at the tennis centre in London on Friday - a superb event promoting girls and their involvement in tennis. We are very proud of our links with Park Langley Tennis Club and it is great that all children will receive expert tennis coaching at some point during their time at Poverest.
Year 2 enjoyed a great trip to Frylands for their first overnight stay. They were certainly lucky with the weather and for those parents in year 2, the photos on Dojo were excellent and a great account of the wonderful time they had learning outdoors. Year 6 had a visit to Orpington Fire Station for their Junior Citizen Day. This is an event where the children get to experience some real-life dilemmas they may face in their teenage years and a great way to learn the correct course of action in these situations.
On Tuesday we had our final school improvement partner visit for this academic year. This visit from Bromley focused on how we are delivering the curriculum to our children and I am delighted that she saw some really wonderful lessons across the whole school. Ultimately having great consistent teaching on a daily basis, will ensure our children attain well and are completely ready for the next stages in the learning journey.
My assembly this week focused on the theme of friendship. Having a strong group of friends is so important in life and I explained that how you treat others is really important - if you are kind and thoughtful to other children, they will be kind and thoughtful back. The London Rocks TT-Rockstars competition was this week, we came 39th out of all the schools in London which is a great achievement. An extra-special well done to Elder Class as they were the 48th best class out of all the classes!
Have a great weekend and hopefully, we will see you at our Summer Fair tomorrow.
