Issue 40

I had the pleasure of spending some time in Tiddlywinks this week. They were very keen to see Buddy so I went in to talk about how we look after pets and the responsibility we have if we own a pet. They asked lots of questions as you can imagine but most of all enjoyed giving Buddy a treat in exchange for a paw or high 5!

During assembly this week, we discuss AI and technology. There is a school in London which has a class of 20 GCSE students being taught by AI. It's hard to imagine a school without any teachers and I don't believe that children learning solely via a Virtual Reality headset is a good way forward as we will lose the importance of human interaction. However, AI can help children learn as it can set them at exactly the correct level of learning. We use AI on some of the websites we use. TTRocks and Numbots both give our children bespoke learning opportunities.

Today we have had two celebrations. Firstly our Harvest Festival and thank you to everyone who has been able to make a donation to the Bromley Foodbank. Next week, I will be taking over donations to the food bank based at the Oak Community Church on Chipperfield Road. This afternoon our gifted and talented musicians performed in The Weeks' Cup competition. This was known as The Brooker Cup, named after a former chair of governors at Poverest but we've renamed the competition after Mrs Weeks our former headteacher and it was lovely to see her in school once again.

Next week we have our Open Morning for potential new Reception Parents for September 2025, please remind any potential new parents to sign up via the link on our school website. On Thursday we have our individual school photos. Please ensure your child is in full school uniform for the photo and they will need to change for PE on this day. Thursday is also our school census day. This is very important for the school as the money we receive from the government depends on our attendance figures on this day.

Have a great weekend.

Focus Week - Year 3

Year 3 has settled well into their new school year.

We have immersed ourselves into our English, History and Art with The Stone Age. In English we have started our new text ‘The First Drawing’ using pictures to make predictions and giving reasons for our ideas. We then identified nouns within the text and wrote in role. We have researched and recalled facts about The Stone Age in History which made the text even more interesting!

In Art and Design, we have studied cave paintings from France, then used a variety of natural mediums - charcoal, turmeric, paprika and curry powder to paint our own designs on sandpaper. Our classrooms did smell very fragrant!

In Maths, Year 3 has been enjoying their learning journey in the new term. We have been learning the Place Value of numbers to 1000. We have also looked at the number line, estimation along with ordering and comparing the numbers.

In Computing, we are developing our understanding of networks and identifying its various components. We have looked at how information travels from one device to another and deepened our knowledge of real world networks.

Spanish has been our absolute favourite as we are learning new words, greetings and building our vocabulary.

Music has been fantastic, where we are learning a new instrument, the pBuzz. It is a simplified version of the trombone- featuring an authentic trombone mouthpiece and a moveable slide to change the pitch.

In History, we are developing our understanding that history is divided into periods. We have looked at sequencing timeline using BC and AD and beginning to develop a good understanding of chronological order.

In RE, we have been learning about where morals come from. We discussed various ways that people decide between right and wrong. We also identified the similarities and differences between religious guidance from some religions.

In Science, we have been studying the topic ‘Forces and Magnets’’. Through practical investigations we have been identifying examples of magnetic and non-magnetic materials with magnets. Using mini cars we have observed how cars move differently on a variety of surfaces.
