Issue 43

I started this week away from school at the LGFL EDtech Conference. We must stay up to date with the latest educational thinking and the world of technology does progress very fast! One prediction which shocked me was the fact that our current year 5 children are predicted to be the first cohort to take a core subject GCSE examination (English, Maths or Science) completely online, with other subject GCSE examinations happening before that. Preparing our children to live in a technological world and be competent users of a range of devices is very important. Artificial intelligence is another fast-paced development, with estimates that 80% of year 6 children have used A.I. in some form - Snap Chat A.I. being the most popular. Around 40% of these children used A.I. just to have a conversation.  Children will ultimately teach themselves and each other on the use of A.I. and they might not get this right, so we as adults need to ensure that children understand what A.I. is and does and are taught to use it safely and sensibly. At Poverest we will be adding A.I. into our Esafety curriculum so children are taught what it is. Our message to the children is that A.I. can create things for you but it doesn't care about you. Many year groups had the chance to go to the cinema this week which was a nice treat for those children. The school football team had a narrow defeat at home to Raglan on Tuesday but demonstrated plenty of potential in their play which was great to see.

We have lots of exciting events coming up. Next week the children will have their Polar Express Immersion Day to inspire them for writing activities the following week and we also have the Christmas Grotto and Christmas Fair both organised by our wonderful Friends of Poverest Group. The group are working hard to raise funds for our new outdoor classroom that we would love to get built in time for the summer, so please do support the Christmas Fair as much as you can.
Have a wonderful weekend and wrap up warm if you're venturing outside!

Focus Week - Year 2

Year 2 visited the Library Bus which was so much fun! We loved looking at all the different books and enjoyed being able to choose a book to read for pleasure. We all chose different varieties of genres to read at home. The children also enjoyed being able to scan out their books to keep for two weeks. Our Science topic this term has been so much fun! We've been testing materials which are suitable for plant pots. We tested bubble wrap, tin foil, fabric, paper and card to see whether they could hold a plant pot shape, water and soil. It's been fun to take part in a Scientific investigation and we've been trying our best to make sure that we were fair testing along the way. Year 2 have been busy Nativity rehearsing and we are so excited to show you our amazing singing and acting! We've been so impressed with how quickly the children are learning the songs and their lines so thank you for all your support at home with this. We can't wait to see you on the 10th December and 12th December.
