We have had a very busy week at Poverest. The highlight of the week was our ‘Inflatable Fun Day’ organised by our Friends of Poverest. The children had a great time on the bouncy castle as well as trying to score as many points as they could on the basketball game, penalty shootout game and the axe throwing inflatable. Thank you to the FoP for organising such a successful event.
Our EYFS children had their first Forest School lesson on Tuesday and enjoyed exploring the area along with children from The Orchard. EYFS also had a cruise ship designer come in to speak to the children about her job as part of their transport topic and the children in The Meadow visited the Nugent Centre to carry out a survey on buses in our local area.
The Year 1 children interviewed me as part of their history topic on toys to find out more about toys in the past. The children had to work out what my favourite toy was by asking me lots of questions. I showed them a photo of me with my Barbie Dreamhouse in 1986 and they then told me what a Barbie Dreamhouse looks like today.
It has been a very creative week for Year 2, Year 4 and children in The Meadow. Year 2 have been busy making their own ‘felt’ as part of their art and design topic. Year 4 were learning to create a 3D image using tinting and shading in their art lessons, some were more successful than others! The children in The Meadow have been paper weaving and they will be adding different materials to their weaving over the next few weeks.
Unfortunately, we have had lots of children who have not been well this week, many with cold and flu symptoms. As well as making sure the children are catching coughs and sneezes in tissues (catch it, bin it, kill it) we are also reminding them to wash their hands regularly. We have made sure that there is plenty of soap available in the toilets and classrooms but a few children needed reminding to wash their hands properly and so we have put up some of our old COVID posters as a reminder. Please continue to remind the children to do this at home so that we can keep the number of sick children to a minimum.
Next week is another exciting week with Year 6 visiting Pizza Express, some Year 4 children are going to The Warren for a times tables challenge and the Little City Company will be doing some workshops for children in EYFS, Year 1 and The Orchard to name a few of the events.
I hope that you all have a happy and healthy weekend
Mrs Wilson
