Issue 47

We have had another really busy and enjoyable week here at Poverest with so many exciting learning opportunities.

The children have been enjoying the new playtime equipment giving them plenty of new ideas to occupy their time on the playground.  Personally, I felt very proud of my basketball scoring skills when I joined them earlier in the week.

Our year 6 classes visited Pizza Express this week and came back with boxes of delights and pizza chef's hats. I am sure they thoroughly enjoyed the contents of the boxes.  Maybe they could recreate some of their pizza ideas at home for their families?

A few of our year 4 children attended The Warren, Hayes, and took part in a times table challenge.  I have seen first hand how the year 4 children really get competitive with the online maths games.

I looked out for our younger children this morning, but instead of the usual classes arriving as normal, there appeared to be a whole lot of pirates in their place!  I discovered that they have been reading the ‘Night Pirate’ and today they had an immersive pirate day as a conclusion of it.  I saw some incredible costumes, thank you for getting so involved. I am sure they will be talking about it for the rest of the weekend.

We had another visitor at the end of the week; Rhiannon from the Little City (South East)  came to Poverest and set up a model town for the younger children to explore.  I saw children sitting in the hairdressers while their friends pretended to style their hair, others were acting as vets and making sure the soft toys were fit and well.  Down at the garage the mechanics were busy fixing the cars; there was so much going on.  It was a very busy town and a wonderful experience for all the children.

Just a little reminder to please remember warm PE kits for when your children are having their outdoor sessions.  They will still be going ahead, so it is important that the children are dressed appropriately for these lessons.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

See you on Monday

Focus Week - The Meadow

We are very excited to have our first entry in the newsletter this week, giving us the opportunity to share all the wonderful things that the children have created, skills they have been building on, as well as trying some new flavours in aid of the Lunar New Year!

Last week we started our new topic of focus…Weaving! The children started with paper weaves which proved challenging but turned out beautifully. We have now moved on to weaving with thread and cotton. This activity has been enjoyed by all the children, experimenting with different patterns, textures and colours with some wanting to continue in their lunch break and others taking them home to finish! It is truly wonderful to see how much they are enjoying this mindful activity, all while expressing their creativity, especially as quite a few of us started last week a little sceptical and feeling unsure of how we would learn a new technique and what to expect.

We are looking forward to the next stage as we visit Forest School to explore alternative materials for our looms to create different effects!

To mark and celebrate the Lunar New Year on 29th January 2025, The Meadow has organised many craft activities which have been available to the children during lunchtime. These activities have included paper snakes, lanterns and contributing scales to our whole school Chinese Dragon project in the main hall which is looking more colourful every day! In the main sessions this week the children have been busy making and tasting chicken fried rice! We are so proud of how they have been working together as well as being open to tasting new flavours and feeling new textures. As groups they have been preparing the ingredients and following instructions. Their hard work has paid off and we saw lots of happy, satisfied smiles as they enjoyed their hard work!

We are looking forward to many more enjoyable sessions building our confidence, resilience and determination as we take on new challenges and continue to develop valuable life skills.
