We have had a wonderful afternoon showing off our musical talents at the Spring Concert today. Children at Poverest have a music lesson every week and as part of their musical learning, children from Year 2 up learn a particular instrument for the whole year so they begin to master the playing of it. Some decide to continue learning that instrument in 1-1 lessons. We are supported in the teaching of music by the Bromley Youth Music Trust (BYMT) and it was great for the children to play in front of an audience. Children from Years 3 and 4 are also performing at the Bromley Broms in March this year alongside some other selected schools. A huge thank you to all the staff for supporting the children with their music education but especially to Mrs Inwood for the fabulous organisation of the afternoon.
I met with the parent forum this week to answer your queries and questions about all things Poverest. It was great to hear new ideas as we work together to continue making Poverest the great school it is. The forum minutes are now on the school website under the parents' section.
We also had another visit from the Maths Mastery Hub. As we look to excel in our teaching of mathematics, many improvements were noted in the lessons she saw, and we expect that this improved teaching will lead to greater results from the children.
Our main assembly, as part of children's mental health week, was hosted by the volunteers at Hoblingwell Junior Parkrun. They spoke to the children and told them all about the free 2k community event for 4-14 year olds which takes place every Sunday at 9 am at Hoblingwell Wood Recreation Ground. More information can be found on the website www.parkrun.org.uk/hoblingwell-juniors. Children are welcome to run, walk or even volunteer. Children need to register at www.parkrun.org.uk/register to participate. Parents and carers are welcome to join in too, so it’s a great opportunity to get active as a family. If you or your child would like to volunteer you can do so by emailing hoblingwelljuniors@parkrun.com
Buddy and I had the pleasure of joining Year 2 on their local visit walk to The River Cray behind the Nugent Centre on Wednesday. The children set a great example of behaviour to the local community and completed their tally charts of living and non-living items along their walk. Thank you for inviting us along Year 2.
Have a wonderful weekend and get along to Parkrun if you can - you will all be welcomed.
